Walk, panoramic view, natural landscape
The tallest peak on Vis at 587 metres is accessible both on foot, by signed walking paths from Komiza, or by road. During our visit (in 2006) the very summit was still occupied by the Croatian military and was a prohibited zone. Several of the adjacent ridges and peaks are accessible however and provide excellent all round views of the island and surrounding waters including Hvar, the Blue Cave, Korcula and the mainland. As well as the views there are also several points of interest including a small chapel and endless bushes of wild herbs, particularly Rosemary and Sage.
From Komiza you can follow foot paths (a strenuous walk) from south-east side of Komiza. Otherwise you can approach from the south-east by car via Podspilje. In 2006 the very summit was a restricted military area.
