Korcula, Luka Banja
Located around 1nm to the west of Korcula Luka Banya (also known as Uvala Banja) is a handy spot for those who do not want to moor either in the ACI Korcula Marina or at the town dock. It provides good all-round shelter and a pleasant location (we had night-jars singing during our stay). There are a number of mooring buoys on the east side of the bay inside its entrance though it is not clear who manages them and whether they are for public use. We picked one up in mid June and were not challenged during our overnight stay.
There is space to anchor particularly in the centre of the bay to the south of the entrance in between 7-15 metres of water. The bottom is sand, shingle and weed and the holding is reported as good. In a Bora move to the east of the bay, seek shelter there and add additional security by taking lines ashore.
From here there is excellent road links (and a bus service) the mile into Korcula town. It also makes a nice walk.
Shelter: Good though care is need in a Bora
Depths: 7-15 metres
Bottom: Sand and Shingle with some weed
Holding: Reported as good
Hazards: Be aware of an unlit hazard marker to the west of the entrance
Shore Access: Small harbour walls around the bay. Access to the road network
Services: There is a small store in the bay and more shops at Korcula 1nm east.
