Pakleni Otoci, Sv. Klement, Uvala Vinogradisce
This popular bay is located on the southern shore of O. Sv. Klement (part of the Pakleni Archipelago) towards its eastern end and due south of ACI Palmizana. It provides good shelter in all directions except for south in a long, narrow inlet of around 0.5nm and between 1-150 metres in width. Anchor in 4-12 metres of water with a bottom that is primarily sand which provides reasonably good holding.
Our advice would then be to take lines ashore to ensure your position as it is not unusual for there to be between 15-30 boats moored in this idyllic spot. Do not let the number of boats put you off however, we made a deliberate plan to stay here in 2011 having seen the bay (at its busiest) on several occasions during stays at the nearby ACI facility. It has 4 main attractions, its free, it has easy access (by water taxi) to Hvar Town through the ACI Marina which is only 10 minutes walk away, there are 2 very high class restaurants on its northern shore and several others offering more traditional fare and finally it is a fantastic location with family orientated beaches, clean, warm water and a generally ‘nice‘ atmosphere.
Despite the busy nature of the anchorage we found Vinogradisce to be quiet, with reported noisy generators not evident. As night falls you quickly forget the number of other yachts about you. This bay is an excellent place for an overnight stop when heading to and from Vis or Korcula (and points south) or for a lunch stop. We would also recommend it for several days if you just need a break, want to stop sailing or a while and get off the boat either to walk (there are miles of path on Sv. Klement) sight see in Hvar Town, or just want to take advantage of the family beaches at the head of the bay.
Shelter: Open to south
Depths: 2-12 metres
Bottom: Sand and weed
Holding: Reasonably good (though frequently used)
Hazards: Several unlit islets (including O. Stambedar) around 0.5nm off entrance, caution should be taken of approach at night.
Shore Access: Across beach or via a jetty for tenders
Services: Seasonal bar/restaurants and water taxis to Hvar (from ACI Palmizana)
